James J. Vedder, named a "Rising Star" by Minnesota Law & Politics for seven consecutive years, practices in the area of family law, assisting clients in a variety of matters including:

  • Antenuptial/prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
  • Business valuations
  • Complex litigation and settlement of marital and non-marital assets
  • Complex non-marital tracing
  • Custody settlement and litigation
  • Settlement Negotiations
  • Appeals

Mr. Vedder brings a compassionate approach to difficult family law issues.  He aims to settle matters and only resort to litigating a case if the parties cannot come to an agreeable resolution.  He has a substantial amount of experience in settling and trying complex marital dissolution cases.

  • Prior to joining Moss & Barnett, Mr. Vedder served a clerkship for a Hennepin County District Court judge.  He has also worked with children in a number of different contexts over the years and is therefore sensitive to the emotional challenges presented by difficult family situations.  He works diligently to minimize these potentially stressful situations and produce favorable results for his clients.

Mr. Vedder has written articles on the topic of family law for various journals and has been a part of many landmark family law cases in Minnesota.  He is a member of the Minnesota State and Hennepin County Bar Associations.
